We’re trying something a little different this 4/20 - a new location and a new vibe! Come join us at Hekate, where they’re serving THC drinks, Kava, and sober cocktails while we meet, socialize, share, and discuss our work.

Itinerary
People are welcome starting at 6 o'clock, and you can come and write, drink, and socialize until 7 when we will start readings.
At 7 o'clock we formally get together as a group to listen to readings from those looking for feedback.
We do not select readers based on order of arrival or a sign-up sheet, so if you have work until late but still want to come and read, you can!
Each reader gets five (5) minutes to read, so please select a section of work which is appropriate for that time limit.
We welcome narrative prose (fiction and non-fiction), poetry, the occasional essay, and scripts (be they for screen or stage), so long as it is writing that you're serious about. Please no ad copy, journal entries, memes, musings, idea pitches, works where performance is more critical than the writing, or other errata. Nothing AI, if that needs saying.
We'll then spend another five (5) minutes in discussion. This is time for the listeners to provide feedback on the reading and discussing the craft in general. We welcome (and encourage) constructive criticism, so long as it is done with respect. This is just as important as the reading, and is done as an open conversation not lead by the reader or the host, so no hand raising required!
We try to get to as many people who want to read as we can, so if there are a lot of attendees we will be very strict on time.
At 9 o'clock we finish readings and start our formal social hour. Meet new friends, connect with old ones, exchange longer works for review, or just let loose.

In honor of Women's History Month, March’s California Sober is a night designed to bring together women in the psychedelic community who want to connect! Whether you're brand new to this world or a seasoned psychonaut, Psychedelic Ladies Night is an opportunity to gather in an alcohol-free environment and meet other women in the community for an open night of socializing.
This event is open to all women and women-identifying people, including trans women and non-binary folks who feel aligned with women’s groups.

Make your own non-alcoholic botanical shrub with a former sommelier on select weeknights nights at Hekate. The workshop is hands-on with a large variety of smells and tastes to explore. Everything you'll need to make a delicious botanical shrub iincluded along with a flavor expert for helpful hints if you want. Be a meticulous mad scientist or a jazzy witch. Space is limited!
Over 20 (organic where possible) botanicals to smell, taste, and create with
Organic kelp vinegar for you to infuse(seaweed is perfect for this, and you'll learn why)
750 mL apothecary bottle for your botanical shrub. Depending on how sweet you like, how much vinegar the botanicals absorb, and how much you dilute the vinegar you may get more or less than 750 mL (but it'll be close)
Pre-Infused vinegar to smell, taste, and blend for a preview of your personal potion
Organic simple syrup to sweeten your infusions
White or Kraft-paper-style labels with basic art supplies to label your final concoction
Guidance and ideas from a sommelier that you’re welcome to throw away, because this class is about hands-on IRL fun and exploration of aromas and flavors, not perfection or pretentiousness.

Many people drawn to psychedelic culture are seeking relationships rooted in authenticity, emotional depth, shared values, and genuine presence. Psychedelic Singles Night is a chance for like-minded people to meet one another in a low-pressure, alcohol-free environment that prioritizes curiosity, conversation, and being fully yourself.
This event is designed as a meet-up for people interested in exploring romantic connection, including but not limited to members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Whether you’re actively dating, freshly single, or simply curious about meeting others in a more intentional setting, you’re welcome here!
Light conversation prompts will be available to help spark meaningful dialogue, and participation in any activity is always optional. As with all of our events, come as you are!

This month’s gathering is intentionally centered on neurodivergent members of the psychedelic community.
Many people drawn to psychedelic culture feel that their brains don’t fit neatly into dominant norms, and identify as Autistic, ADHD, OCD, or otherwise neurodivergent. NeuroDiversity Night is a chance for neurodivergent psychedelic folks to connect, share perspectives, and find one another in a setting that values alternative ways of thinking.
This event is designed primarily as a meet-up for people who identify as neurodivergent, including those who are self-identified or exploring. Allies are welcome to attend with the understanding that this evening centers on sharing and learning from the neurodivergent experience.
Low-pressure conversation prompts will be available, and participation in any activity is always optional. As with all of our events, come as you are!

This class is not recommended for pregnant people. We can't speak to the safety of the botanicals or unpasteurized vinegar for people pregnant/nursing.
This class is sensory-focused and not an herbal medicine class.
All of the botanicals offered will all be on the “Generally Recognized as Safe” list from the FDA and we can help with some general food safety recommendations, but since we’re not medical professionals or food-safety scientists we can’t guarantee what you create is 100% without effects, especially regarding drug interactions or medical conditions. Ask a doctor if you're concerned about anything, and we'd be happy to provide the ingredients which will be available.

Extra bottles available for a reasonable price
The vinegar flavor of your shrub can be covered up quite a bit and the vinegar is high quality. If you hate vinegar you may not enjoy this class, but if you’re ok with hot sauce, ketchup, mustard, or kombucha you’ll likely be ok
You can bring other sweeteners if you’d like (honey or maple syrup etc) but we're only providing cane-sugar-based simple syrup)
We recommend coming once to infuse and a second time to balance your infusion (sweeten/dilute) and share. You can take home your infusions too and do it yourself. The price for the class includes the 2nd visit to balance the infusion.
